



Yiannis Vagianos is a greek bass player, composer and researcher, active in the European jazz scene. He is leading the contemporary jazz band "Tangent" and his jazz quartet "Yiannis Vagianos Quartet". He is co-leading the band "ARBOR" and the band "Merem". He has done several tours in and out of Europe and he is an active sideman, with rich discography and performance experience.
He is currently pursuing his artistic PhD at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. His research project explores the groove potentialities found outside the boundaries of hierarchical rhythmic hierarchy. He holds a Master of Music degree (Jazz Contrabass) from Conservatorium van Amsterdam, a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Contrabass) from Codarts University of the Arts and a Master of Science degree from National and Technical University of Athens (Mechanical Engineering)
He was awarded the 2nd Prize at the Franco Ambrossetti Jazz Award 2022 with his band "Tangent Quartet".
Among his notable performances are North Sea Jazz Festival 2023 with the band "Merem" and Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.
